Information related to sex

During adolescence, romantic relationships often begin, and curiosity about sexual activity also arises. During this time, the production of sexual fluids in the body starts, so it is natural to have sexual feelings. However, sexual activity is not something to be taken lightly.

Understanding methods of preventing pregnancy, methods of preventing sexually transmitted infections, as well as cultural values and beliefs surrounding sexual activity, is necessary.

What is virginity?

Generally, a virgin is someone who has not engaged in sexual activity. However, it is not that simple. This is because the definition of sexual activity can vary from person to person. For example, some define sexual activity as the insertion of a penis into the vaginal opening. Others may consider it sexual activity when the penis is placed between the legs during intercourse. Some people also believe that oral sex is considered sexual activity.

Furthermore, many people believe that sexual violence cannot be considered sexual activity. So, can someone lose their virginity through sexual violence?

The views surrounding virginity are very complex. Ultimately, it is only for you to decide what you believe.

There are also people who disregard virginity altogether.

Instead of worrying about whether or not you are a virgin, use that time to focus on your studies and build healthy relationships.

What is the hymen?

The hymen is a small piece of tissue located near the vaginal opening, often referred to as a membrane.

There are many misconceptions about the hymen. Some people believe that the hymen completely covers the vaginal opening. This is incorrect. In cases where the hymen covers the vaginal opening completely, it must be removed through a minor surgical procedure. Otherwise, menstruation cannot exit.

Typically, the hymen only partially covers the vaginal opening. Some women are born without a hymen. Below is an image showing the hymen in various forms. The orange color indicates the hymen.

Insertion of something into the vaginal passage may cause the hymen to stretch or tear if it is present. If tearing occurs, small drops of blood may be seen. However, it may be difficult to clearly distinguish this because it can mix with vaginal discharge.

The first time something is inserted into the vaginal passage, bleeding is often seen, and it is believed in cultural terms to be confirmation of virginity. However, there is no scientific connection between the hymen and virginity.

Consent

Both individuals must give their consent for sexual activity. If it occurs without consent, it is considered sexual assault.

Consent cannot be obtained through force. You cannot obtain consent from someone who is asleep or unconscious. Additionally, you cannot obtain consent from a girl under the age of 16 for sexual activity.

Before any sexual activity such as oral sex, anal sex, vaginal intercourse, or any other form of sexual activity, consent must be obtained.

If you wish to engage in sexual activity with someone, you should ask them and obtain consent without using force. If consent is not obtained, using force or threats can damage the relationship. Engaging in sexual activity without consent is sexual assault.

What should you know about pornography?

Pornography refers to images, stories, videos, or other media created to provide sexual arousal for adults.

Is it appropriate to watch them?

Pornographic films often do not depict real sexual activity. Therefore, there is a significant chance that watching them can give us a false understanding of sexual relationships.

The people in pornographic films are acting. It’s similar to filming any other movie. These films feature actors and actresses from the adult entertainment industry. In some instances, these actors may alter or enhance their bodies to suit their career. It is important to remember that your own or your partner’s body should never compared or judged in comparison to the actors /actresses bodies.

Consent is not mentioned in these films. We do not see the process of consent being obtained for the acting in the film. The actors have already agreed to perform, but viewers do not see how consent is given.

Additionally, these films rarely show the use of protection, such as condoms, to prevent pregnancy or the transmission of sexually transmitted infections.

If you wish to learn more about sexual activity, it is important to speak with a trusted adult. There is also a lot of information available online, but it is difficult to guarantee the accuracy of all the information.
