About Brave

Welcome to Brave, a transformative platform dedicated to empowering young minds with crucial life skills knowledge. Jointly developed by the Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPASL) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Brave addresses critical gaps in educating adolescents and youth aged 11-24 on personal safety, healthy habits, relationships, social skills and more…

Our mission is to create a safe, engaging, and culturally sensitive learning environment where young learners, parents, and educators can explore vital topics with confidence. Guided by interactive stories, relatable characters, and gamified elements, Brave offers age-appropriate, multilingual content tailored to Sri Lanka’s diverse communities.

Beyond education, Brave equips teachers and parents with tools to support and guide learners, fostering open dialogue and mutual understanding. Together, we aim to break taboos, dispel myths, and nurture informed, empowered individuals prepared to navigate their futures with knowledge and courage.

What we do, our goals and ambitions

At Brave, we are committed to reshaping how young people understand and interact with the word around them. Through an engaging, interactive platform, we empower youth aged 11-24 with accurate and age-appropriate knowledge about life skills. Our approach integrates culturally sensitive storytelling, gamified learning, and multilingual accessibility, ensuring inclusivity for Sri Lanka’s diverse communities.

Eliminating barriers to our collective future prosperity by safeguarding and educating our youth is a priority. The ever-increasing incidence of violence, abuse, and exploitation of children and young adults highlights the urgent need for radical intervention to protect our youth.

Our goals are to tackle miseducation around the subjects of personal health and wellbeing, reproductive, hygiene, emotional intelligence and relationships. We aim to foster open conversations, and equip young learners with the tools to make informed, responsible decisions. Brave is more than a platform—it is a movement towards a safer, healthier, and more empowered future for all.

Brave is designed for the community, by the community

Brave is a community-driven platform, built with insights from young people, experts, educators, and parents—empowering youth with knowledge and confidence. We created Brave together! because teamwork makes dreams work!

Lorem ipsum dolor, sit amet consectetur adipisicing elit.

Brave is a platform rooted in collaboration, reflecting the voices and expertise of a diverse range of partners. Recognizing the need for an inclusive and effective approach to comprehensive life skills education, we engaged extensively with key members of the community to ensure the platform meets the real-world needs of its users.

Central to this process were consultations with young people, the primary audience of Brave. Their insights guided the development of relatable content, interactive elements, and engaging narratives. By understanding their concerns, preferences, and challenges, we crafted a platform that resonates with their experiences and aspirations.

We collaborated with subject experts, government institutions, and educators to ensure the content aligns with national curricula and global standards while addressing local cultural sensitivities. Teachers and parents provided valuable feedback, helping us design tools that support them in guiding young learners through sensitive topics.

Expert panels and child psychologists were instrumental in creating age-appropriate, evidence-based content. Their input ensured that Brave not only educates but also nurtures the emotional and psychological well-being of its users.

This community-driven approach underpins Brave’s mission to be more than just an educational resource. It is a collective effort to safeguard and empower the next generation, providing them with the knowledge and confidence to navigate life’s challenges. By bringing together voices from every corner of the community, Brave stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we work together for a shared purpose.

Our audience and our impact

At Brave, we cater to a diverse audience united by a shared goal: empowering young minds with knowledge and confidence. Our primary focus is adolescents and young adults aged 11-24, equipping them with the tools to make informed decisions to be safe and to be healthy.

We also serve parents and teachers, providing them with comprehensive resources to guide and support young learners. Schools and educators are integral to our mission, as we collaborate to integrate Brave into curricula and create inclusive learning environments.

The impact of Brave extends beyond education—it fosters open dialogue, breaks down societal taboos, and empowers communities to tackle pressing issues like violence, abuse, and exploitation. By equipping youth with knowledge and building a supportive network around them, Brave creates lasting change, shaping a safer, healthier, and more informed society for future generations. Together, we are building a Brave future.
